The Park Row Synagogue

  • The Synagogue on Park Row was designed by S. C. Fripp and Hyman Henry Collins and was built in 1874.

  • Collins was one of the earliest Jewish architects to practice in Britain and designed several synagogues in London and elsewhere. His only other surviving buildings are Chatham Memorial Synagogue (1865-1870) and London, St. John's Wood (1880-1882).

  • The synagogue is a three-storey structure built of Pennant sandstone with freestone detailing.

  • The interior of the synagogue was designed by Collins and most of the fittings are original.
