About Us

On Saturday, July 19th 2008, Archaeological Officers from Bristol City Council organised an Archaeology in the Park event at Castle Park as part of the Council for British Archaeology National Archaeology Week.

On the day archaeologists provided guided tours of the site of Bristol Castle accompanied by historical characters and medieval musicians. Films about the castle and other information were provided at the Vaulted Chambers.

During the day members of the public were invited to tell their stories about Castle Park and these were recorded by Jim Dixon from the University of Bristol.

MILLCIC have used the material collected at the event to create an online trail and an accompanying Mediascape. See links on the right.

We have also used Castle Park for an activity day for children from several North Bristol primary schools funded by the Gifted and Talented scheme. We intend to hold further events at Castle Park in 2010 and invite any schools who would like to use the learning resource including the Vaulted Chambers and the Sally Port tunnel to get in touch.
