3 – Producing a guide to Avonmouth
Aim – to produce schemes of work that are;
- cross curricular
- developing literacy skills at all levels
- promoting a sense of civic pride in the area
- using Avonmouth as a resource
- tailored to each year group
Possible activities - Foundation stage and KS1
- Drawing buildings of choice
- Producing map of area or part of area
- Recording oral testimonies
- Poetry exploring senses
- Favourite part of Avonmouth
Possible activities - KS2
- Historic research – buildings, areas, transport, street names
- Exploring importance of river and roads
- Family histories
- Design advertisements promoting local businesses
- Famous people that have connections with Avonmouth
- Rupert Brooke, Lord Kitchener, Percy Toplis
(WW1 link – to be discussed in more detail this afternoon with Y5&6 teachers)
- Structured interviews –
With older members of community
Year 6 paired with Foundation to record what they have to say
Year 5 paired with Year 1 – write an interview to find out where they live, what they like about area etc.
- Poetry exploring imagery
- Imaginative writing – time travel
