Hoefnagle's map of Bristol, 1581

Hoefnagle's map of Bristol is the earliest 'bird's eye view' of the city. It is not a true plan of the city, though the map gives us an idea of what Tudor Bristol looked like.

Many of the streets and main buildings like the castle and churches are shown. Hoefnagle has also drawn some people in Tudor dress in the bottom left.

This map was originally printed in Germany as part of a collection of city maps called Civitates Orbis Terrarum.
