Royal Western Hotel

  • The hotel was completed in 1840 by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, to a design by R. S. Pope.

  • It was intended to provide accommodation to transatlantic travellers before embarking on the onward stage of their journey. It ceased to be a hotel in 1855 and was converted to use as a Turkish baths.

  • Most of the building was demolished to make way for Brunel House in the late 1970s, although part of the façade was retained and has a Grade II listing.

  • This is a four storey structure built of Limestone.
