St Michael's Church School Register

By the end of 1840 there were 39 children registered at the school, but by the end of 1846 there were 139 boys in the Junior School alone, although many of the boys may have left during the year.

School was not compulsory until 1876 so many children from poor families would go to work to help support the family.
